Rachel Lipkin (Vocals/Guitar/Composer/Co-Producer) is a Jewish Minneapolis singer, composer, musician who enjoys all types of music, and began composing Jewish liturgical music in 2010 after being inspired by the musicians, cantors and clergy who gather annually for the Hava Nashira Jewish music program at the URJ Camp O.S.R.U.I. in Oconomowoc, WI. A self-taught guitarist, Rachel has been a lay-davening (prayer) leader at Shir Tikvah Congregation since 2010. Thanks to John Kraft for his countless hours of recording, production and mixing without whom this project would have been impossible; to Ofer Geller and Maggie Burton for their accompaniment on drum and flute, respectively; to Claude Riedel for his gorgeous glass Ner Tamid for the cover art (go to ClaudeRiedelArt.com to buy your own); to Wendy Goldberg for her years of mentorship and support; to my home congregation Shir Tikvah and Rabbis Latz, Rappaport and Rosenberg; and to my family who are my best and loving davening partners.
“I most love praying with my voice–lifting up prayer through song and instruments in community.”
Ofer Geller (Drums) is a Minnesota based drummer and percussionist who began playing the drums during junior high school. Ofer has played in a variety of rock and zydeco bands before joining the song leading ensemble at Shir Tikvah in 2013. Ofer says that it is a great privilege to him to help guide those at services in prayer through song. Ofer has been married to his wife Susan and is the proud father of a ballet dancer daughter named Amy.
Margaret (Maggie) Burton (Flute) has been active in Jewish music in Minnesota for over 30 years. She has served as cantorial soloist at Mount Zion Temple, B’nai Emet Synagogue, and B’nai Israel (Rochester), and currently serves as High Holiday cantor for Congregation Agudath Achim in Taunton, MA.
